San Sebastian (Donostia) is, for each of its 189.000 inhabitants, the most beautiful city in the world. For the rest of us, it certainly is one of the most beautiful Spanish cities, between Barcelona and Sevilla. This small, fishing village at the Bay of Biscay was founded in 1180, but became the most popular and fashionable summer destination for Europe’s aristocracy at the end of the 19th C., when the Spanish Queen Maria Cristina of Hasburg chose San Sebastian in 1887 and for the next forty years as her exclusive summer destination.
Because of its Belle Epoque atmosphere, its French-Basque architecture, the SSIFF Film Festival since 1953, the Summer Jazz Festival but above all, La Concha beach, the city has tourism all year around.
In my tour “As a local for one day in San Sebastian” we will visit all the popular spots of the city, such as:
We will end the tour inside the Old City, very popular for its numerous pintxos bars (tapas in the Basque language) and there, will visit the oldest, least touristic and more authentic places to taste the famous Basque gastronomy. We will visit local taverns and we’ll finish the tasting with the Basque cheese cake in the most popular tavern of the Old City.
The pintxos tasting is optional and is not included on the tour price, but it sure is a “must” when visiting San Sebastian.
*Transportation: Walking / Public local bus transportation.
