The Medieval City and Its Murals - Alternative Street Art Tour
Full day | Full day | 45 €
Public bus from Bilbao. Full-day route across Vitoria-Gasteiz old town and murals.
Vitoria-Gasteiz has always been the capital of the Basque Country.
In 2007, sisters Christina and Veronica Wreckmeister, owners of an art gallery in California, came to launch the IMVG project, in which they collaborated with local artists to create murals throughout the old town. The result was the “Painted City,” the medieval old town filled with colors and hidden messages—a unique blend of ancient medieval buildings and modern street art.
This alternative tour is the best way to stroll through the streets of the medieval old town of Casco Viejo, which is full of medieval walls, churches, and buildings, while admiring some unexpected, unique murals by local artists.
We will visit:
The New Cathedral and its museum.
The Gothic Old Cathedral from the outside / optional interior visit (14th century).
Plaza de Vitoria, the central square of the medieval Almend.
Plaza de España with the City Hall (18th century).
The Church of San Miguel with the beautiful Virgen Blanca on its façade (14th century)
The best-preserved medieval city walls of the medieval Almend (12th century)
The Suso Palace (Villa Suso, 16th century)
La Casa de Cordon (15th century), one of the most beautiful private buildings in the Basque Country
The Los Faroles Museum
La Plaza de los Fueros
El Portalon (15 th C.) the oldest medieval restaurant of the Basque Country, perfectly preserved as it was in the Medieval ages. During the tour, we will also enjoy more than 15 murals of high artistic value, as:
“The Kiss”
“Sky covered with stars”
“Al hilo del tiempo”
“The light of hope (Women around the world)”
“The sun and the moon”
“What do we do with this?” … and many more!
